Cat Palm

Note: Temperatures in the mid to upper 40’s combined with 25 mph plus winds will burn the fronds on this plant really fast. Windy conditions change the lower limits the plant will tolerate without damage. Plants will also be affected more by temperature changes if they have been kept in a nice warm home all winter - keep this in mind when you first take your plants outdoors for the season.

The Cat Palm is a tropical shrub from Southeastern Mexico. This palm loves water; in its native environment it grows along streams and rivers. Cat palms grow a lot like a grassy plant; which means that it is quick to recover from damage. It is less of an issue to leave this palm outdoors during cool weather since it will rebound fairly quick. You still need to protect it from temperatures below 40° F by bringing it indoors.
