Curbside Gardens

Originally I only had plants on the side where the mailbox located. In the summer of 2010 I decided to expand to the other side. This is also the first year that I started using the Pot-in-Pot Method - it allows me to change out the plants on a regular basis. It seems to be a hit; the traffic in front of my house has increased by at least four times what it was. Many people will walk, ride or drive by several times in a short period of time. Having plants by the road also allows passersby to have a better experience. When using tropical plants in your yard, you need to think of your yard as a stage or movie set. I have seen programs that are suppose to be set in Florida; you can obviously tell that it was filmed in California because of all mature drought and cold resistant palm trees. What they do is use a lot of houseplant sized palms to give it more of a Florida look; keep this in mind when you are creating your tropical paradise.
