Peach Trees

Global Warming? - Tell that to my DEAD Peach Trees!

I planted this tree in 2004 and I only got 11 peaches total from it! In 2005 it produced one peach and in 2008 it produced 10 peaches. It met Mr. Chainsaw in 2010! At least 75% of the tree froze out. This was a "Red Haven" Peach, and I also had a "Contender" Peach that was killed by the cold. The winter of 2008-2009 had a low of -27° F and this was enough to kill half of the tree; the winter of 2009-2010 with its low of -30° was the final blow.

The winters of 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 were very cold, this is more than likely the result of solar minimum, the period in the solar cycle when the sun produces the least amount of energy - the solar cycle is what the
Farmers Almanac is based on. Starting in 2010 Peach Trees should be able to once again survive our winters and should be able for the next 10 to 11 years during solar maximum - time will tell if I’m right.
